Albury NSW · on the Murray · halfway between Sydney & Melbourne
Medicine that ends when the shift does.
Vocationally Registered GPs only: come and join the team at Border Urgent Care Centre — Albury's trusted Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, keeping your medical work light and meaningful. Join us for a few sessions around your current week, or for the job you'd rather have.
No booked list, no "just here for my scripts." Most of the day is good, steady urgent care — and then the door opens on something interesting. An honest taste, coughs included. Tap through.
Every UCC says "supportive team". Here are six real reasons to choose ours.
The things our GPs would tell you over coffee — the ones that decide whether an urgent care shift is a pleasure or a grind.
01
Built around your real job — or it becomes it
Most of our GPs work here alongside an ED roster or a practice week: a few good sessions that complement the main gig. And for some, the sessions quietly take over — because this ends up being the job they'd rather have.
02
A team that's earned its trust
Our nurses and admin come from ED and general practice — and they've worked together for years, through difficult patients, hard outcomes, good ones, and the building of this UCC from the ground up. That trust is already there when you walk in; you just plug into it.
03
Screened before the door
Patients are screened before they walk in, not after. The presentations that shouldn't be in urgent care are redirected early — so your room time is spent on medicine, not gatekeeping.
04
No opioid scripts
A firm policy — which means the negotiation every GP dreads simply doesn't happen here. Word is out, and it shapes who walks in. Your day is cleaner for it.
05
Fast lanes when it counts
Established liaison with the local hospital ED and expedited radiology pathways. When a patient needs imaging or escalation, there's a phone call and a pathway — not a shrug and a taxi voucher.
06
Run by people who've done your job
Clinician-owned and led by doctors who've worked UCC, general practice and ED. The people setting the roster have stood where you'll stand — and it shows in how the place runs.
Where we're headed: a UCC busy enough to matter and good enough to be known for it — the place clinicians across the border want shifts at, whatever clinic or hospital they call home. Come build that reputation with us.
Think you're not "UCC enough"? You probably are.
We recruit Vocationally Registered GPs only — but the essential kit is smaller than most VR GPs assume. If you can do these three, you can work here:
The rest is the pattern recognition you already own — and you're never working without a net. Clinical support is a phone call away on every shift, and where a skill needs dusting off, we'll back you while it comes up to speed. Nobody practises alone here.
Two ways in. Both on your terms.
We're expanding our operating hours — and that takes a whole range of GPs: morning people, evening people, weekenders, and everyone in between. Both doors below are open right now; tell us which one you are.
Regular shifts
Anchor shifts, growing service
We're building a core of GPs on regular, predictable shifts — the backbone that lets us expand our operating hours. If you want urgent care as a steady part of your week, this is the seat.
Fixed, recurring sessions you can plan a life around
Morning, afternoon and evening blocks that stack across a growing day — take the part that fits your life
Nominate for the GP pool: tell us your availability, pick up sessions when they fit. A few evenings a month quietly becomes the mortgage moving faster — or the holiday that books itself.
And here's the quiet good bit: every session you pick up absorbs same-day urgent demand that would otherwise land on Albury–Wodonga's GPs and ED. You clock in — and somewhere across town, a colleague gets home in time for dinner.
An honest compatibility check.
Urgent care is a particular flavour of medicine — gloriously right for some GPs, wrong for others. Save us both a phone call:
You'll love it here if…
You miss acute medicine but not hospital politics
You can spot the genuinely sick kid in a waiting room of snotty ones
You'd rather suture than referral-letter
A few good shifts around your ED or practice week sounds like the perfect side of the plate
Medicine that ends when the shift does sounds like a gift — no recalls, no after-hours inbox, no results chasing you home
A no-opioid-scripts policy sounds like relief, not restriction
Keep scrolling if…
Your happy place is a booked list of familiar faces
You need to know at 8am exactly what 3pm holds
One more chesty cough this winter would break you (there will be coughs — we're honest about that)
Your procedural wishlist starts at fracture reductions — we know our lane, and that's the ED's
Walk-in unpredictability sounds stressful, not fun
You were hoping this was a telehealth gig
Albury: live like you're on leave.
A proper regional city of 100,000 on the Murray, halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, closer to the snow than either — with all the creature comforts and none of the traffic.
Ten minutesFrom your last patient to home, the river or the school pickup. The commute you stop noticing.
Creature comfortsA cinema, an entertainment centre with touring shows, proper restaurants and good coffee, real shopping. The city staples, minus the gridlock and the parking apps.
Snow & waterFalls Creek and Hotham are a weekend, not an expedition. Lake Hume and the Murray are a whim.
Wine countryRutherglen, Beechworth and the King Valley on the doorstep. Long lunches, no overnight bag.
Real infrastructureBase hospital, good schools public and private, and an airport with flights to capital and regional cities.
Mortgage mathsA family home near good schools for a fraction of a capital-city price — and pool sessions here to pay it down faster.
Let's talk money in the first conversation.
Not the third interview. Not "competitive remuneration commensurate with experience." Our rates are premium for the region, structured for the work urgent care actually is, and we'll put real numbers on the table the first time we speak — whether you're after anchor shifts or the odd pool session. Rural incentive programs may also apply depending on your circumstances — we'll walk you through what you're eligible for.
From first email to first shift.
No portals, no ghosting, no six-week silence. Here's the whole path:
1
Email us
A few lines about yourself, a CV, or just a question — to joinus@borderucc.au. That's the entire application.
2
We talk
We'll reply to set up a time for a proper conversation with the Clinical Director — about the work, the roster, and the numbers.
3
Referee checks
If we're both keen, we complete three referee checks — including at least one referee who can speak to your experience with emergency-type presentations.

Paperwork, credentialing, roster. Welcome aboard — your first shift is closer than you think.
Skip the application portal. There isn't one.
Email a few lines about yourself — or your CV, or just a question. Every enquiry is read and answered by the clinical team, not an agency, and handled confidentially. If it might fit, the next step is a conversation with the Clinical Director.
